Day 11: Bush Medicine

Green Plum Bark. Boil up the red layer of bark. It will cure boils and scabies. Apparently the green plums are also delicious.

Jim

Jim grew up in South Yarra having moved there from Sydney as a child. He has recently graduated with Bachelors of Arts and Commerce from the University of Melbourne. Since leaving university Jim has lived in Carlton and continues at his casual job as a rubbish man for 1800 Got Junk. As a new recruit to Teachabout Jim is looking forward to spending the summer running activities with kids. In the future he plans to become a teacher.

Georgina

Georgi grew up in country Victoria but currently lives in Melbourne where she is completing a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Australian Indigenous Studies at the University of Melbourne. Georgi enjoys long walks through difficult terrain and drinking from water bladders, she recently experienced both when she trekked the Kokoda Track in September. After working with Teachabout in Melbourne over the course of 2012, Georgi is incredibly excited to meet the Minyerri kids and experience the beauty of Alawa country during the Wet Season.

Caitlin

From Mornington, Victoria. Loves the beach, cats and photography. She has just graduated from The University of Melbourne with a BA majoring in Australian Indigenous studies and sociology. Caitlin is enthusiastic about hanging out with the Minyerri kids, but petrified of meeting any crocs!

Rita

Rita grew up on a farm in country Victoria. She made the big move to Melbourne in 2007 to attend The University of Melbourne and has since completed a Bachelor of Arts – Majoring in Political Science. After an educational hiatus for two years Rita is now mid way through a Masters of Social Science in International Development in RMIT University. This will be Rita’s fourth visit to Minyerri. She is looking forward to seeing old friends, getting to know the younger siblings of past Teachabout participants and the possibility of chasing a piglet.
